In my work, I seek to fuse the classical mosaic tradition with contemporary design, exploring how the natural veining of marble and the textures of stone can engage with space and light. My practice focuses on stonework and encompasses two primary techniques:
Traditional Mosaic (Direct Method). Each *tessera* (mosaic piece) is cut from slabs of marble, travertine, or limestone using diamond blades and finished by hand. The composition follows a precise mosaic pattern, which guides the viewer’s eye through the way light reflects off the stone.
Stone Inlay (a contemporary take on *commesso fiorentino*). This technique involves fitting together sections of different stones—shaped and filed so that the joints between them are nearly invisible. I leverage the natural veining of the marble to create painterly gradations or sharp, graphic elements. I work with materials such as Carrara marble, Nero Marquina, Verde Alpi, Giallo Siena, and various semi-precious hard stones.
