Tiny Biennale

This 60th Anniversary edition of the Tiny Biennale is inspired by the theme "Memories," honoring the many artists and faculty members whose creativity has shaped Temple University Rome's artistic and academic community over the past six decades.

Temple University Rome  celebrates its 60th Anniversary with a special edition of the Tiny Biennale, its signature exhibition of small-scale works.

This anniversary edition of the Tiny Biennale is inspired by the theme "Memories," honoring the many artists and faculty members whose creativity has shaped Temple University Rome's artistic and academic community over the past six decades.

First conceived in 2011 by artist and colleague Susan Moore, the Tiny Biennale features works measuring just 8 × 8 inches (20 × 20 cm). Its last edition was presented in January 2020, after which the exhibition was placed on hiatus. Following Susan's passing in 2022, we felt it was only fitting to revive this beloved exhibition as part of our 60th Anniversary celebrations. We believe she would have delighted in seeing it return, once again bringing together the remarkable community of artists connected to Temple Rome.

Founded in 1966 as the Tyler School of Art in Rome, Temple University Rome has grown from its original home at Villa Caproni, on the banks of the Tiber River, into a vibrant center for international education and the arts.

With the establishment of the Gallery of Art in 1990, the university expanded its artistic programming beyond the classroom and into the city through a dynamic exhibition program. Today, with a community of more than 800 students across three academic semesters each year, Temple Rome continues this legacy from its home at Via di San Sebastianello 16, adjacent to the Spanish Steps, where teaching, learning, and artistic exchange flourish.

A selection of the exhibited works has been generously donated by the artists and will be available for purchase, with all proceeds supporting student resources for Temple Rome's Visual Arts Department.
