For an afternoon, the exhibition becomes a place to work together, too. Images of human cells subjected to stress, central to Vert Project’s research into adaptation, will be the starting point for our experiments. With Valerio’s stories and insights, we’ll find words together and give them shape with movable type, exploring combinations, colours and meanings on paper.
Federico Ruxo will draw live on a map, and we’ll add our letters to his artwork through letterpress printing.
We’re opening the studio to share the work as it happens: the ideas, the trials, the choices and the unexpected turns. Together with Valerio and Federico, there will be room to ask questions, make suggestions and discover how the same image can inspire different readings in a researcher, an artist and a printer. Scientific and artistic research share a curiosity for looking closely, testing an intuition and discovering something that wasn’t visible before.
During the open studio, you can explore the exhibition while printing and drawing are underway, stop to watch, meet the people behind the work and ask questions. Photographs from the Lofoten Islands, images of cells, the works on display and those taking shape during the afternoon will offer opportunities to meet and continue the story of Chasing Adaptation.
Would you like to compose and print with us?
During the open studio, we’re offering a special workshop: three hours to develop your own composition on images of cells, guided by Francesca Colonia and Giulia Nicolai / Betterpress, with scientific insights from Valerio. We’ll choose words, find the type and experiment with inks to create a print to take home. No previous experience is needed.
Open studio: 3:30–6:30 pm. You’re welcome to arrive at any time during these hours.
Workshop: 3:30–6:30 pm. advance booking and a participation fee are required.
