The Earth at Night project stems from an exploration of forms relating to global cities. Utilising satellite imagery, the work traces illuminated lines between capitals and continents. The recognisable masses of light from the largest cities viewed in a synthesised worldwide suspension of darkness reflects on several contemporary issues; the distribution of power and wealth, urban expansion, the demand for resources and the resulting ecological concerns. At the same time it suggests other possibilities, a sense of our proximity, our connectedness in the world.
