romart Gallery, located within the CsAdams space, will present a series of exhibitions featuring original photographic materials created using “historical” techniques (daguerreotype, calotype, ferrotype, albumen prints, glass prints, wet collodion, etc.). Learning about ancient photographic techniques through a series of exhibitions is important on many levels—historical, artistic, technical, cultural—and can enrich both those who practice photography and those who appreciate it. The exhibitions will also be accompanied by various materials, such as equipment, inks, papers, plates, frames, manuals, and albums, relating to the historical period under consideration. We believe that the aim of this journey can contribute to understanding the origins and evolution of photography, its artistic and expressive value, developing technical education and visual sensitivity, and promoting responsible practices for the conservation and protection of photographic heritage, cultural identity, and collective memory. We also believe that the ‘live’ presence of ancient techniques can stimulate the study of their influence on the contemporary world and encourage experimentation. Some exhibitions will be accompanied by thematic seminars featuring experts. The materials on display come from private collections.
We would like to thank in advance the lenders of works and materials, and all those whose contributions will make this journey of ideas and emotions possible.
