TO THE BONE
Personal exhibition by Sergio Venuti
Studio 54, Torpignattara, Rome
24-26 October 2025
Studio 54 in Torpignattara, Rome, hosts Sergio Venuti’s solo exhibition “To the Bone” from 3 to 5 October 2025, an intimate project blending painting, memory, and biography.
Sergio Venuti, born in Naples in 1959, is a fashion designer and professor of Fashion Design at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. Alongside his career in fashion, he has always nurtured painting as a private practice, preserving its authenticity. With this exhibition, he shares his pictorial research publicly.
“To the Bone” features 21 oil paintings on X-ray films, a medium rich with meaning, symbolizing introspection and truth. The exhibition stems from a deep connection with Nicola Rotiroti, artist and founder of Studio 54, sharing a commitment to authenticity and the need to express an inner dimension.
The show is a tribute to the artist’s father, a radiologist who called himself “a photographer of the interior,” and a portrait of his mother in her final years, marked by illness. Venuti explores the boundary between visible and invisible, body and soul, presence and absence, delivering intimate, powerful, and sometimes painful images: his mother alive with Alzheimer’s, then deceased; self-portraits as an exercise in awareness and processing grief.
Using real X-rays as a painting surface, Venuti performs an artistic and symbolic act: delving into the structure—bone, emotion, affection—to reach the essence. A visual journey reflecting on identity, the link between art and healing, and the interplay of family legacy and creative vocation.
