The exhibition The Artwork or the Painting brings together professors, researchers, and artists trained and active at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, under the curatorial guidance of Artur Winiarski, professor and director of the Painting Studio at the Faculty of Painting.
The exhibition takes shape as a choral dialogue on contemporary painting, understood not only as an artistic practice but also as a field of theoretical, technical, and poetic investigation.
The presence of professors, assistants, and young graduates testifies to the vitality of an academic environment that has, for decades, both preserved and renewed European pictorial traditions while opening them to experimentation and new languages. Among the participants are Dr. Katarzyna Dyjewska, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Painting; Professors Piotr Wachowski, Sylwester Piędziejewski, Grzegorz Mroczkowski, Przemysław Klimek, and Marcin Jurkiewicz, each heading studios and workshops that explore drawing, painting, and their techniques from different perspectives.
Alongside them, assistants Anna and Łukasz Jankowicz and Marcin Kozłowski embody the generational bridge that renews pictorial research, while the participation of Alina Picazio, a painter trained in Italy, highlights the project’s international openness.
The Artwork or the Painting thus becomes a mosaic of experiences and perspectives, capable of reflecting the complexity of painting today: tradition and innovation, gesture and reflection, technique and intuition. The curatorship emphasizes not so much the differences as the resonances among the artists, turning the exhibition into an open laboratory in which painting, more than a medium, reveals itself as a space of encounter.
