Surviving matter - Margaux Compte-Mergier

Environmental latex installation by Margaux Compte-Mergier: a post-apocalyptic banquet suspended between ruin and rebirth.

The exhibition by Margaux Compte-Mergier, on view at Studio Orma from 26 September to 24 October 2025, presents a large-scale environmental installation in latex that transforms the space into a post-apocalyptic banquet.

At its center, a five-meter-long sculptural table—entirely cast in silicone—hosts a dispersed constellation of suspended, deformed objects: tools, food, and bodily fragments integrated with organic and synthetic materials such as dried flowers, pigments, dust, and refuse. The installation evokes a mute and fossilized Last Supper, in which time appears crystallized in the aftermath of an unnamed catastrophe.

The staging will be enhanced by a carefully conceived system of light and shadow, and accompanied by two texts: a poetic compilation curated by the artist, and a critical essay curated by ORMA, offering interpretive depth and context.

On 24 October, during the exhibition’s finissage, artist Laura Papachristos will present a new performance, engaging physically and emotionally with the installation. Her intervention will activate the space and revisit its symbols through a performative lens, bringing the work into a living dialogue with presence, body, and gesture.
