On the occasion of Rome Startup Week 2024, artists Solo, Diamond, Lo Zoo di Simona, and Miky Degni created four live artworks inspired by the relationship with new technologies.

Human relationships, 3.0 idols, and digital era saints, along with creativity and innovation, are just a few of the themes that the artists captured and brought to the audience's attention, immersing themselves among young startups, entrepreneurs, and educational institutions. However, the technological element was not just a source of inspiration: once completed, the artworks were digitized using Gigapixel technology, creating a high-resolution “digital twin,” becoming part of a broader project. This opened up further reflection on the opportunities and challenges of the dematerialization of art. Indeed, while digitization allows for widespread dissemination of information and broader access to our cultural heritage, it also raises questions about the protection of the image and the rights holders’ usage rights. In this regard, technology once again comes to the rescue.

In collaboration with Artence, a new collaborative digital ecosystem based on blockchain, Rome Art Week aims to present the concluding episode of this transition from physical to digital, involving the public in the creation of the NFTs for the four artworks on the Artence marketplace.

The legal office of Artence, located at Activa Digital, V. Alessandro Severo, 52A (driveway) or 58 (pedestrian), will exhibit the physical canvases and audiovisual contributions produced during Rome Startup Week.

The event will provide an opportunity to organize meetings aimed at exploring topics such as: the importance of new technologies in the cultural sector; the relationship between creatives and digital tools, starting from the firsthand testimonies of the artists involved in Rome Startup Week; the role of blockchain technology in certifying rights and digital works; and the new cultural professions born from the intersection of humanities education and technological skills.

The schedule of meetings will involve faculty from the Second Level Master’s program in “New Technologies for Communication, Cultural Management, and Art History Education” at the Tor Vergata University of Rome, as well as faculty and students from the “Videomaker Immersive & Interactive Production” course at the ITS Roberto Rossellini Foundation.

The curation of the exhibition and the event schedule will be managed in collaboration with Federica Bertini.
