Carapace is the reconstruction of the theca of the giant tortoise Cylindraspis vosmaeri, extinct at the end of the 18th century. The species was endemic to Rodrigues, a small island of 103 km2 located 348 miles east of Madagascar, in the Mascarene archipelago. In the Anthropocene era, Carapace is a sign of the fragility of life and disappearance, of predation and colonization, which restores visibility with a temporal inversion to the ecological modifications operated by humans. From oblivion, from memory to memory, the sculpture transfers the disappeared animal into a metaphorical form of the incarnation of an interiority, questioning the mutual influences between natural sciences, literature, arts and new technologies.

The installation at the Galleria Embrice di Carlo Severati in Via delle Sette Chiese 78 (Rome) is scheduled from 21 to 26 October 2024 (from 18.00 to 20.00).
