MARIO SUGHI EXHIBITION - NEROSUNERO - LACCA

Friday, October 11th Sesto Senso Art Gallery will opening the new Mario Sughi - Nerosunero Exhibition "Lacca"

Sesto Senso Art Gallery is pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition Lacca, which will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 6:30 pm, in the presence of the artist. The gallery presents a selection of works by artist Mario Sughi, created using the new mix media technique, where digital painting (archival pigment print), freehand drawing, and photography coexist. The works depict seemingly ordinary images in parks, meadows, beaches, and museums, with men and women captured by the artist in their everyday gestures, as in a photographic shot. The exhibition is curated by Barbara Tamburro and presented by Antonella Dilorenzo, journalist and founder of Blam magazine. The artist portrays moments of leisure and everyday life, placing his subjects in a neutral context where every element can be either real or unreal; this highlights the charm and mystery of the figures, which are the essence of each of his compositions. The deliberate suspension of time, characterized by the depiction of non-events (situations where the characters perform small daily gestures), is the key to interpreting this innovative pictorial language. These minimalist glimpses represent public and private moments in both worldly and secret settings, once again presenting a duality to the viewer. Mario Sughi creates full-length portraits of individuals, whether alone or in pairs, that are both intimate and monumental. The artist is committed to presenting a unique and unrepeatable moment, yet at the same time, revealing something greater and more significant than the mere personal experience. As shown in the exhibited works, the artist is a brilliant colorist and a perfectionist in the formal compositional rendering: flat surfaces emphasize the elegant images, composition, and the evocative sense of space. The poses chosen by the artist for his figures reflect a careful study of the gaze, which is used to create mystery when directed toward a mirror or a painting, but becomes almost seductive when looking at the viewer, as in Viky in Felix’s Apartment. The spaces created in these works often suggest an “elsewhere,” as in At the Art Fair / art Karlsruhe, where the protagonist's face is cut off from the painting. Among the exhibited paintings, the theme of the museum prevails: The Billboard, Neue Pinakothek n1, Neue Pinakothek n6, Paul & Lou (Museum). The works depict viewers seen from behind, intent on observing paintings in a museum; the effect created challenges the role of the spectator, who observes the subject in the painting repeating the same action. During the opening, the artist will present his book, Lacca, created by hiself.
