Soile Yli-Mäyry is a Finnish painter from Kuortane, known for her abstract works characterized by a vibrant palette. Growing up with deaf parents, she absorbed the importance of sign language, which is reflected in her art.
Her passion for drawing emerged early as she painted in her family’s bomb shelter. At 18, inspired by a work of Kokoschka, she moved to Vienna to study art. Despite facing challenges and creative crises, her resilience led her to study sociology, reigniting her artistic calling.
Her works explore themes such as human fragility, the power of nature, and technological alienation. A committed ecologist, she uses every shade of color, not only in her paintings but also in her clothing and glass creations from Murano. Yli-Mäyry’s exhibitions invite the audience to reflect on the complexity of humanity and its relationship with nature in an increasingly urbanized world.
