The collaboration of the Takeawaygallery continues with the Arciliuto theatre, the theater of Music and Poetry, located in the heart of ancient Rome, inside the noble Palazzo Chiovenda, overlooking the small square of Montevecchio, between Via dei Coronari and the Cloister of Bramante, a unique place of its kind. Since 1967, Arciliuto has been a magical space for artists, for live music, for special theatrical pieces and, for some time, also for events and art exhibitions. On the entrance floor the musical lounge, on the lower floor the theater room and other welcoming rooms for tastings, aperitifs and dinners.
The new exhibition organized by Takeawaygallery, which opens on October 20th at 6pm at the Arciliuto, is dedicated to Domenico Ventura (Altamura, 1942-2021), a painter of whom it presents a precious retrospective after the 2014 solo show at Claudio Abate's Roman studio , the great photographer who was Ventura's friend for almost forty years. Ventura's exhibition, Cronaca vera, curated by Lorenzo Canova and strongly supported by the artist's family, thus brings together a series of unpublished works after the painter's last exhibition "Le Malelingue" at the Casa Vuota Gallery in Rome in 2019.
As Lorenzo Canova writes in his presentation, Domenico Ventura is an elusive and fascinating painter, an artist capable of being both local and international, visionary and realist, an author of narratives that give life to the parallel universe of a long story in images . Ventura appears as a creator who carefully mixes surrealism, expressionism and magical realism, almost pop media evocations, pornography and art history to distill something rich and strange. In this mysterious mix, the facts, moments and characters of a certain provincial life (not only) are therefore besieged by underground presences that emerge to undermine the ruthless dynamics of our social codes.Everything is revealed then between the textures of the dream and the space of reality, in works where eros, with refined effrontery, shakes cultural blocks and customs, driving things in a world dominated by those conventions that are challenged by the corrosive gaze. of the painter. In this journey, unfortunately interrupted too soon, Ventura thus traveled on the waves of his visionary nature, in the meanders of his comic nightmares in which we find unknown and at the same time familiar figures, through the testimonies of his true chronicles which reveal the stories hidden by the walls and from the shadows that cloud our perception of reality.
