Anita Guerra Open Studio

Visitors will see my preparatory drawings and paintings for the show I will have in December, 2026 at Anna Cocchetti's gallery, "Acquario a Via Poerio".

I lay by a pool in August, while seeking reprieve from the scorching Roman heat, when I received a WhatsApp message from Anna Cocchetti. She invited me to have a solo show in her tiny space on Via Poerio. My shows take months, if not years to prepare, so my initial reaction was negative, but then I realized that I had many charcoal and pastel sketches of swimmers I had done for larger works done in oils. What if I lined her tiny space with these floating figures as if it were an aquarium? I then looked around the pool and imagined placing the edge of the pool with umbrellas and Roman pines, maybe a couple of bathers, in a high horizon line near the ceiling? This would increase the impression that the tight space was like an aquarium and the visitors would feel like they themselves were immersed underwater. My open studio will get feedback from the public to see if my concept successfully conveys this experience.
