At this Open Studio, in addition to viewing some of the exhibited works, visitors can take part in the participatory installations "175" and "Cops and Robbers."
In the participatory piece "175" I invite the public to connect with a profound injustice they have personally experienced and to write it down. The act of writing—which remains anonymous— serves as a liberating, cathartic process, while the texts are gathered into a single collection of 175 endured injustices.
"Guardie e Ladri" is an installation inspired by the 1971 Philip Zimbardo experiment. Twenty-four students were selected and randomly assigned roles as either prisoners or prison guards; the experiment was halted after six days. The guards developed sadistic and authoritarian behaviors, while the prisoners exhibited apathy and severe emotional breakdowns. Drawing on reflections prompted by the results of this experiment, I ask the audience to step into the roles of cop and robber, mother and daughter, or cowboy and Indian—just as we did as children—to discover whether our perception of these roles has changed.
