alk “The Dichotomies of Art” – Rome Art Week 2025
Tuesday, October 21, 2025 – 5:00 PM – Studio Campo Boario, Rome
On the occasion of the exhibitions “Fausto Battelli, painter paparazzo” and “Family Air”, Alberto D’Amico and Roberta Melasecca present Talk “The Dichotomies of Art”, dedicated to exploring the dichotomies that run through the art world and fuel its vitality.
The discussion will examine five key contrasts that, over time, have defined and transformed artistic research:
-
Painting and photography – two languages that observe, influence, and redefine one another.
-
Abstraction and figuration – a constant tension between metaphorical expression and the representation of reality.
-
Major and minor arts – a distinction that has grown increasingly fragile, inviting a re-evaluation of practices once considered “marginal.”
-
Fame and anonymity – two fates that often alternate in an artist’s life, between recognition and oblivion.
-
Art and craftsmanship – a shifting boundary where manual skill, aesthetic reflection, and the concept of reproducibility meet.
The figure of Fausto Battelli—photojournalist and painter, but also ceramicist and creator of mixed-media works—will serve as a starting point. His oeuvre reflects many of these tensions: between “high” art and craftsmanship, between visual language and lived experience.
This encounter offers an opportunity to reflect on how oppositions, rather than dividing, can become a driving force for creativity and dialogue among generations, languages, and diverse sensibilities.
