Fausto Battelli: the painter paparazzo
Rome Art Week 2025 – Studio Campo Boario, Rome
October 19–26, 2025
The exhibition “Fausto Battelli: the painter paparazzo” retraces the artistic journey of an Italian author who moved freely through different creative seasons, exploring multiple languages and disciplines. From his beginnings as a ceramicist, Battelli entered the world of photography during the years of la dolce vita, embarking on a career as a photojournalist and capturing the faces and moods of an unforgettable era.
In later years, he returned to painting, his first passion, developing a personal research that shifts between figuration and abstraction, between art and craftsmanship. His more recent mixed-media works testify to a constant experimentation, poised between artistic gesture and manual practice.
An irregular and independent path, one that never found full recognition within official art history, yet raises a crucial question: how do we regard the so-called “minor” artists today?
On display is a selection of works representative of this complex and multifaceted research—art that touches the boundaries of “high” art while immersing itself, without prejudice, in a hybrid and commercial production that nonetheless achieved popular success.
