The poignant zamba "Alfonsin y el mar" is dedicated to the Italian-Argentine poet and journalist Alfonsina Storni, who committed suicide at the age of 40 in the Mar de La Plata, off La Perla beach. Her suicide inspired musicians Ariel Ramírez and Felix Lunae and was first published in 1969, featuring the voice of Argentine singer Mercedes Sosa, a symbol of the struggle for peace and civil rights. Alfonsina Storni was a woman of the people, a single mother, a teacher, a traveler, and a journalist; a socialist, a public figure, and a feminist who fought for women's rights and who loved to define herself as "an ultra-modern woman, without railings." Her poems often link the themes of the sea and death: death by water is a theme in literature of all times and places, as well as in the news of yesterday and today.
It lives on in a video clip, partly filmed at the MULTIVERSO Gallery, performed by Barbara Cestoni, featuring Gabriele Santori on guitar, Maria Cristina Cutinelli in a physical performance, and Federico Natali, director of photography. The authors will be present on Thursday the 23rd for a live performance and the launch of the video, curated by GSM Produzioni Musicali.
