Anastasia Shirmanova is a mixed-media collage artist exploring urban perception and the interplay between memory and physical space. Since 2019, she has been advancing her practice, focusing on Graphic Arts at the prestigious Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute.
Her recent work includes the diptych “My Mother — Cow / My Mother — Bear”, which was exhibited internationally during Cyprus Art Week in Pissouri, presented under the umbrella of the Rome Future Week. The work reinterprets myths of women violently turned into animals, with Shirmanova claiming a connection to these victims and the enduring animal self. This focus on layers and reconstruction connects to her larger body of work, where she uses fragments and textures to explore how we mentally rebuild experiences, blurring the line between physical space and memory.
Her work has been featured in other festivals and publications, including the residency "Polaris" in Salekhard, Russia, a Festival of printed graphics, where her work was featured in the accompanying magazine. As well as, an exhibition at the III International Biennale of Printed Graphics "Kubachinskaya Tower" in Derbent, Republic of Dagestan, Russia, which included features in both the exhibition and its dedicated magazine.
