Artistic Activity
Art critic Francesco Gallo Mazzeo, wrote about Anfissa:
“Anfissa Vassé’s pictorial imagination is largely shaped by a dreamlike vein, capable of merging aspects of the imaginary that arise from explorations in the world of visual psychology, with amplified expressions of her inner strength.”
Art critic and historian Gabriele Simongini referred to Anfissa Vassé's style as «Byzantine Pop Art» a synthesis of pop art and Byzantine iconography, in which golden backgrounds, symbolic two-dimensionality, and abstract images blend with the visual language of mass culture.
The main theme of her work is “love.” In the series “Baci” (“Kisses”), she depicts legendary couples — mythological, historical, and contemporary — such as Romeo and Juliet, Cupid and Psyche, Adam and Eve, Caesar and Cleopatra, and Marilyn Monroe.
