BIOGRAPHY

Anfissa Vassé is an Italian contemporary artist and painter based in Rome, where she lives and works. Her artistic research focuses on the universal theme of love, explored through a symbolic, distinctive, and contemporary visual language.

From an early age, she has devoted herself to the visual arts, studying painting, graphic arts, sculpture, and decorative arts. Throughout her training, she attended workshops, courses, and masterclasses with artists including Antonio Passa, Moreno Bondi, and Zurab Tsereteli.

From 2018 to 2023, she studied at the “Via di Ripetta” Artistic High School in Rome, specializing in Painting and Sculpture. She subsequently continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome, where in 2026 she obtained a First-Level Academic Diploma in Painting, graduating with honors (110 e Lode) and receiving the Academic Kiss (Bacio Accademico).

ARTISTIC RESEARCH

The central body of Anfissa Vassé’s artistic production is the painting cycle “BACI” (KISSES), in which love is portrayed through legendary, mythological, historical, and contemporary couples: Romeo and Juliet, Cupid and Psyche, Adam and Eve, Caesar and Cleopatra, as well as major icons of the collective imagination such as Marilyn Monroe.

The lips, often depicted in extreme close-up, become a universal symbol of love, desire, attraction, and union.

Golden and silver backgrounds, painterly matter, iconic references, and imagery drawn from contemporary culture come together to create an immediately recognizable visual language.

Her artistic research has been praised for its originality.

Art critic and art historian Francesco Gallo Mazzeo, writing about the “BACI” collection, states:

“…A sense of eros appears and shines through, like a subtle ‘flour’ of makeup: a seductive message filtered through the myths and legends of the present that already offer a glimpse of tomorrow. The elegy of the kiss is romantic and pop, an expression of a postmodernity that unfolds with elegance, like a lady from tradition. It is the dream of a world in which everything is enveloped in a delicate film of an iconic yet invisible physicality, evoked by a dawn-like touch, flooded with light, unreal because it is the result of a visionary genius…”

Art critic and art historian Gabriele Simongini has described Anfissa Vassé’s pictorial language as “Byzantine Pop Art”—an original synthesis of the language of contemporary Pop Art and the luminous, symbolic, and sacred dimension of Byzantine iconography.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

In 2025, Anfissa Vassé was selected by RCS Sport as the official painter of the 2025 Giro d’Italia.

For the project, she created a reinterpretation of the Pink Jersey through body painting, hand-painted 36 costumes for the dance company of the Giro d’Italia Caravan, and presented a live body-painting performance at the opening of the 2025 Giro d’Italia Women.

Her artistic practice extends beyond the canvas, encompassing performance, live painting, and body painting, creating a dialogue between painting, the body, music, fashion, and performance.
