I’m NeO-ONE, an independent cartoonist and illustrator based in Gorizia, Friuli. In my work I explore dark fantasy and surrealist themes, as well as social critique, blending black humor with dreamlike visions. I attended — and quickly dropped out of — the art high school in Gorizia, teaching myself to draw as a form of self-defense against existence.
I’ve lived in Canada, Germany, and England, where I pursued an independent path that led me to self-publish my first comics, Elmer Zapping and SNAILS, and to take part as an independent artist in events such as the Crack Festival in Rome, Bada, Borda, AFA, and Canzine (in Hamilton).
For the past few years, I’ve run a YouTube channel where I interview and promote underground artists, while also discussing alternative art and a twisted, anti-mainstream philosophy.
My style is mainly black and white, almost exclusively analog. I’ve collaborated with self-publishing collectives (Interiors, Black Hound, Sight Hell, Muscle Magazine...) and exhibited my work in Gorizia, Milan, and Ottawa.
Through my comics and drawings, I aim to create stories that disturb and provoke reflection, breaking conventional narrative structures as much as possible.
I’ve published two books: Un posto dove stare (Eumeswil, 2009) and 50 Piani (Poiesis, 2019).
I’ve also played in hardcore punk and stoner bands (1984HC, Lizard Queen).
I deeply love everything that is not normal.
