Luigi Barricelli is an Italian comic book artist, illustrator, and painter, born in Santa Maria Capua Vetere in 1987. In his comics, he uses highly detailed drawings and inking, depicting surreal, grotesque, and dark settings and characters. His main sources of inspiration are masters such as Moebius, P. Druillet, R. Crumb, S. Toppi, Junji Ito, and many others.
His approach to painting, however, is completely different. It is a synthetic painting, executed primarily with acrylics, oils, and watercolors on paper or wooden panels. An aura of mystery and melancholy is ever-present in his works, leaving little room for the viewer to definitively define the function of the characters composing the scenes.
