An intimate, fragile dimension where what is real borders on the world of dreams and intuitions.

Born and raised in Piedmont (Italy), I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, earning my degree in set design. The following year, I went to Milan, where I had won a scholarship to the La Scala Theater set design shop. In 1989, I moved to Rome, where I pursued a demanding career in scenic design for more than twenty years. This allowed me to draw and design a great deal, for theater, film and television alike. Around 2010 I scaled back my activities as a set designer, in order to have more time, and devote myself more intensively to painting.

Inspiration of my work moves from the enchantment of a gesture or expression, in which I perceive intuitions, fantasies or mild anxieties, references to contiguous worlds: glimpses of nature, surreal elements, animals living in freedom, airplanes and gliders in flight. These things continually fascinate me.

The characters portrayed, simply immersed in their thoughts or intent on their games, are transported into somewhat dreamy, airy and surreal feeling of floating; they move through open spaces where nature is part of the narrative.

Following a perceptive thread I often compose diptychs or triptychs, hints of stories that unfold between coloured and monochrome canvases as if chasing connections between distant moments, different places or times, united by a subtle weave that belongs to the dreams and desires of the subjects represented.

I paint with oil on canvas because the softness of this medium responds to the emotion I intend to represent.

I have exhibited my works in two different solo exhibitions, one in Rome in 2018 and one in the Polo Museale di Gualdo Tadino in 2020. I have participated in several prestigious group exhibitions including: 4 different editions of ‘Premio Sulmona’ with the patronage of the Italian Council of Ministers (2018 - 2019 - 2020 - 2022), ‘Finalists Premio Arte Mondadori’ at Palazzo Reale in Milan (2017), ‘Creative Biennial of Viterbo’ at Palazzo dei Papi (2015). ‘Biennale di Venezia Padiglione Italia’ in Turin (2011). The painting ‘In the silence among the trees’ was reported in the 2018 Combact Prize catalogue.
