In the past, I’ve been introduced to numerous cultures because of having to shift constantly from one place to another. I’ve lived in small towns and big cities where change had become something that was constant in my life. My research interests, inspired by my travels, is based on architecture and landscape in relation to the development of societies with an increased interest in ancient material cultures as well.
Through my art practice, that consists of painting, print making, photography and installation, I aim to depict the ornate relationship between the personal space and the built environment that comes together to define individual identity by creating a dialogue between a representation and the actual self. The images are influenced by a combination of the history of portraiture, personal archival photographs and architectural and natural motifs retrieved from my immediate surroundings, which collectively depicts an intricately woven fabric of our cultural and personal histories that influence our perception of the domestic space.
