Pino Vastarella was born in Rome where he lives and works. Architect, painter, designer, stylist, photographer and reciter, over the years he has gone through many forms of creative expression: from painting to photography, from graphic to fashion, from building design to furniture, from image publishing to reading show.
His path is the precise reflection of a personal story that has never been completed and is always aimed at comparing ancient memories and new experiments. The continuous research on matter has led him, after an initial passage on the abstract, to encounter figuration. The indefinite forms them become defined, fueling the curiosity to confront himself in a research where the materials retine to the representations of bodies, faces, the reinterpretation of ancient statues and above all architecture a panorama of lived and lacerated reality. Reading the routes, smelling the traces, beating the paths that underline the centuries-old conquest that architecture has developed under the eyes of the world then becomes an inexorable choice. Investigating the vertically of skyscrapers, the sinuous skyline of a city restores the same vertigo that an ancient structure transmits after centuries. The classicism of history then becomes lyrical, the look at the past becomes the freshness of the present.
Scratching the stone and the travertine, restoring the image soiled by an ancient tension are worth the rust of bolts or the iron of a contruction site. The material takes on an absolute an dominant role: it definitely becomes the artist’s tool.
