Mami Kawai

Mami is a Japanese Textile-Fiber artist. She uses a variety of materials, mainly fabrics and threads, and applies different techniques to tell stories—both imaginary and/or real - always set against the backdrop of her own memories and her life.

Data and contact details

Mami Kawai, Textile-Fiber Artist, was born in Tokyo Japan, graduated at Tama Art University. She has been working between Japan and Italy, where she lived for 25 years from 1998 until 2022 (mainly in Rome).

Around the world, she has exhibited her works in: Italy, Spain, Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Mexico, China and Japan.

Her most recent solo exhibitions are:

"Nel Cielo" in 2025 @ Spazio Greci in Rome, Italy (Rome Art Week).

”Giardino“ in 2023 @ Marüte gallery in Takamatsu, Japan.

Important Group Exhibitions she participated in are:

"Amore e Libertà" for Bracciano Art Week in Bracciano, Italy in 2026.

”Suave 5” National Museum of Art Decoration in Madrid, Spain in 2013.

“Textile Art of Today” Slovak museum in Slovakia in 2015.

"Mezzo minuto di raccoglimento" @ Madonna Dell’Orto Church in Venice, Italy in 2023 and so on.
