Barbara Sanna Murgia is a photographer and visual artist whose work explores the body, identity, memory and non-verbal forms of expression.
Over the years, she has developed a photographic practice spanning personal research, portraiture, performance and stage photography, alongside a wide range of artistic collaborations in music, theatre, botany, cultural projects and publishing.
In 2018 she presented Silenzio, a photographic exhibition in Pescara, supported by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Pescara. The project was later exhibited in Sanofi Genzyme venues, including Milan.
For Roma Art Week 2026, she presents Reset, an autobiographical photographic project created with photographer Andrea Colarieti. The work is structured around three moments of identity: the self before violence, the self during violence, and the self after violence.
Reset reflects on the rupture caused by violence and on the complex process of reconstruction that follows. Rather than attempting to recover the person who existed before, the project focuses on transformation, survival and the emergence of a new sense of self.
Alongside photography, Sanna Murgia also works with material and contemporary jewellery, extending her research into physical form while maintaining the same core themes of memory, identity, transformation and the traces left by lived experience.
