Japanese art and folklore between tradition and modernity

We explore the richness of traditional Japanese ceramic culture and folklore: tableware, vases for bonsai trees or flowers, onigawara as decorative objects. A millennia-old culture different and far away, but for a few days at your fingertips.

The exhibition “Japanese Art and Folklore between Tradition and Modernity” aims to emphasize the richness of traditional Japanese ceramic culture and folklore, its importance, and its use in everyday life. Tableware in the home; vases for bonsai trees or flowers, for those who patiently, with the respect of time, devote themselves to enhancing the beauty of nature; and the “Oni” as decorative objects or protection against evil spirits.

Traditional ceramic techniques are explored but declined in a modern key, to bring to the visitor's attention traditions distant in time and space. The contemplation of simple yet everyday-use objects, the making of which requires time and patience, is an invitation to stop and take a break from hectic city life to learn about a millennia-old culture that is different and far away, but for a few days within reach.
