Data and contact details

Chiara Pasqualotto was born in Padua, in northern Italy, and from the time she was in high school she has loved illustration, art, literature, film, and picture books in particular. Then in 2000 she completed a Bachelor’s degree in the history, theory and criticism of film,  writing a thesis on color in Rohmer's films.

Since 2008 she's been living in Rome and working with illustration professionally: her first picture book, Mine, All Mine! was published in 2009 by Boxer Books (UK), since then she published with Oxford University Press, Giunti, Terranuova and some American publishers (Paraclete Press, Tyndale, LearningAZ, Kar-Ben Publisher). Her most recent picture book, All Eyes on Alexandra from 2018 received a positive review from Kirkus magazine.
She currently teaches illustration and drawing classes to children and adults, in particular in Padua during the summer at the Scuola Internazionale di Comics and in Rome.

Her artistic education is unconventional and endless, as research and deepening her knowledge and skill never end for Chiara!
First she attended illustration classes and workshops at the Scuola Internazionale di Illustrazione in Sàrmede (TV) and at Ars in Fabula in Macerata and book planning with Paolo Canton (Topipittori publishing house).
Then she was in drawing classes with live models: in Prague at the Academy of Fine Arts, and in Rome in a drawing class led by Riccardo Mannelli and in a weekly self-organized class.

Since 2016 she attends intaglio classes of Maria Pina Bentivenga and Elisabetta Diamanti at Scuola d'Arte e dei Mestieri in Rome: in particular she loves etching. Her interest for illustration and intaglio moulds in the realization of some artist books: the discover of a new fascinating world to discover.

Since 2014, her interest in colors from a theoretical point of view materializes in the production of a series of abstract oil paintings where soft organic shapes move and overlap one another, creating groups and floating clusters of vivid colors.
In these paintings she uses just two or three base colors, but they propagate on the canvas in a variety of middletones, mixtures and chromatic intersections. They wind energetically through a white that is the result of a stratification of glazings.
When seen together, from canvas to canvas too there is a coming and going of colors and shapes: the  dynamic experimentation on color schemes and light is evident.

Chiara took part in group exhibitions of drawings, illustrations, and paintings in some Italian cities (Rome, Padua, Pavia, Mantova, Vicenza).
This is her debut solo exhibition of paintings.
