Michele Schirinzi’s artistic research begins with a curiosity and a desire to make his personal essence material.
The canvas becomes a mirror of his inner world, represented through signs and their opposites. As in a flow of existence, the subject is emotions, life experiences, the artist’s own ideas, which flow from his mind until they become substance.
Much like in the Greek philosophy of Anaximander — in which pairs of opposites detach simultaneously from the material mass of the Apeiron — Schirinzi attempts to represent each concept together with its contrary, finding a way to let both their manifest and their hidden, latent meanings coexist within the composition. Often the latent meaning assumes greater importance than that which, at first glance, appears.
Colour, words, forms become bearers of messages and viewpoints, enclosing within the canvas an ideal syllogism, which is synthesized in the creation of the work itself.
