Marta Renzi was born in 1972 in Rome where she lives and works. Her artistic journey began with graphic design, but key influences in her formative years are architecture (in particular the work of Le Corbusier, Mies van Der Rohe and the Bauhaus movement), as well as photography, cinema and theatre. These influences, visual and spatial, can be found in her graphic design pieces and are present throughout all her work. The aesthetic is pure geometry, in search of an abstract spatiality, composed of solids and voids, where the latter often predominate. Paper has always been her preferred medium. The sheet, the whiteness, the void: they all represent the Space where you can build imaginary worlds. In the act of creation there is no premeditation, there is instinct. A spontaneous stirring of the soul that allows unconscious images to emerge intimate visions of possible cities, intermingling of the external and internal, landscapes composed of intricate lines - from ‘somewhere else’. Abstract spatiality and anti-matter, where a person often materializes; and there is, always, movement. Moving towards or moving out of.
