Giusy Lauriola

Data and contact details

"Art for me is to immerse myself in that magical silence made of the absence of space and time necessary to give form to images that stored in me seek representation. A need I had since childhood when I hid under the living room table and began to draw, cut, paste: what I now do in my studio!" Giusy Lauriola

Giusy Lauriola was born in Rome, where she lives and works.

In recent years, Giusy Lauriola's artistic production has come to life from a careful contemplation on the surrounding reality, a deep reflection without filters or prejudices, beyond good and evil, beyond male and female, in that limbo between conscious and unconscious that has often led her to ask questions about the enigmas and distortions of the world, to try to always capture and bring out the positive aspects that surround her.

This path of research has been transformed into a painting technique that is developed through the laying down of different layers of color, material and resin and the relationship with the sign stroke. Each layer is like a mantra that leads her to the achievement of empathy with the longed-for, dreamed real.

There are three main strands that the artist has developed in recent years, "Dialogue with Nature," "Feelings and Suspended Atmospheres."

The former features a dualism between basic abstractionism and figurative symbolism in which human presence is introduced by objects related to the sphere of everyday life. Chairs, armchairs and interiors announce women and men without making them manifest, inviting us to stop, to close our eyes in order to get in tune with Nature.

In the series Atmosfere Sospese (Suspended Atmospheres), light stands as the protagonist of the entire production. Delicate and diaphanous chromatics unravel on the support with the disruptive force of abstraction. The light source declined in various hues places reality in suspension by bringing out figures free from temporal constraints. The subjects, live in a timeless and metaphysical dimension, as if they came from a dream of the artist herself.

In Sentimenti Sospesi we see close faces of a man and a woman surface, appetizers of a romantic evening true cool breeze for the spirit. A glass of emerald red wine embodies the prelude to a possible emotional transport. The closeness of sensitive souls imposes itself as an antidote to the poison of the individualistic drift of today's world, and it is declined in scenes in which the protagonists are sincere interpersonal relationships as the completion of perceptive being.

Since 2004 he has had successful exhibitions in Italy and abroad including the most recent ones: in 2023 - Close your eyes, Aranciera di San Sisto, Rome and Artètika, Palermo (solo show); in 2022 - Let's take the swampy path to get to the clouds, Galleria Umberto Mastroianni in the Museums of San Salvatore in Lauro, Rome (solo show); in 2021 Rome Arte in Nuvola Fair with SpazioCima at the Fuksas Nuvola Rome; SyArt Sorrento International Festival, Villa Fiorentino, Sorrento Foundation; realization of the illustrated plates for the publishing project Guido Levi, a story full of fears, anxieties and almost yellow events 1942-1946 curated by Manuela De Leonardis; Amabie, La Magica Profezia dello Yōkai, Mo.
