Polmone Pulsante

Data and contact details

The Polmone Pulsante, Centre of Research and Promotion of the Arts  is a non-profit organization and was founded in Rome in 1976 in Via Nomentana 403 by Saverio Ungheri and his wife Teresa Nasso, who have always been in  charge of the organization and management of its cultural seasons. Saverio and Teresa are no longer with us, but a natural awareness of the need to enhance the work done and continue to revive an original and unique center of culture as is the Polmone Pulsante, has remained. The Center, which in 2019 celebrated its fourthy-six years of operation, has been in Salita del Grillo 21 since 1985. Since 1976, the Center has welcomed well-known painters, sculptors, writers, poets and musicians. It has also organized literary awards for poetry, offering young and old artists personal and group exhibitions, as well as holding. retrospectives and memorials. In the Center the highest representatives from various social and cultural organizations have been invited to speak on specific contemporary issues, as well as issues of collective interest. Selected representatives from different and sometimes conflicting political perspectives were also invited to debates with the audience. European and World culture have been exhibited and explored at the Center and Italian and International Art have always been privileged through the intervention of experts in different fields. In the years 1991-2000, the Center has enjoyed  the support of the Ministry of  Culture of the City of  Rome. In these years of activity, more than 1000 meetings  and about 100 art exibitions were held the most with the highest cultural representatives in the areas of journalism, music, religion and politics. The Program-calendar since 1976 is a testament of the activities carried out by  the Polmone Pulsante Center of which renowned editors and reporters have written and spoken of nationally and internationally.

Inside the Center are the pulsating sculptures of Saverio Ungheri, made in the 60s and 70s, that have characterized the creativity and innovation of the artist. From Monday to Friday (19:00 to 20:00), and by appointment, you can visit the Museum with its permanent works of sculpture and painting and with the Frescoed Murales room by Federico Kampf.

The grand staircase visible from the gate, accommodates Ungheri’s pulsating sculptures, made of metal and plastic, whose mobility is monitored by a remote electronic button.
