Friend's building

From the stables to the stars and back again - multimedia event

Alberto D'Amico and Massimo Arduini curate an event inspired by an exhibition some thirty years earlier. Jan Hoet, in 1986, then curator of the Musée Municipal d'Art Contemporain (currently SMAK) in Gent, Belgium, gave birth to an initiative entitled Chambres d'Amis, an attempt to reconcile the intimate and private space with the work of contemporary art. In reality, it is also a place of decontextualisation. A change of "circuit". Bâtiment d'Ami thus refers to that experience, but as a starting point. The play on words, which refers on the one hand to the Belgian title and on the other, in translation, to the surname "D'Amico", contains a reinterpretation of this appropriation of private, domestic and intimate spaces, but also an expansion of place and meaning. The artists are invited to populate the spaces: cellars, flats, stairways, terraces, etc. The works will be accompanied by a moment of discussion with science in the conference by astrophysicist Nicola Menci on the new theories of the universe.
